Orfeo

2006 Puglia Negroamaro

Cantine Paolo Leo's Orfeo is a captivating 2006 Negroamaro from the beautiful region of Puglia. This red wine showcases a deep ruby hue that entices the eye and hints at its complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied, exuding a robust character that embodies the essence of Southern Italy. The wine presents a delightful balance of bright acidity, which effortlessly elevates the rich and prominent fruit intensity characterized by luscious dark fruits and subtle notes of black cherry. With its notable tannins, the structure is firm yet inviting, making it an incredibly food-friendly option. This wine is dry, allowing its vibrant flavors to shine through, and is expressive enough to be enjoyed alongside hearty dishes or savored on its own. Overall, Orfeo offers a sublime tasting experience that reflects the terroir of Puglia and the craftsmanship of Cantine Paolo Leo.

Region:

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
